Half term hols are in full swing, and we've had a blast! Last weekend we visited the Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare for their 'Halloween' themed fun day. All the staff were in fancy dress, even the stewards were Warewolves. There was a brilliant haunted helicopter exhibit, open cockpits, simulators, a fancy dress competition and live music. If you missed it, head on over this Sunday (30th) for another spooky open-cockpit day from 10am. It's all going on in Shepton Mallet too.
A new hair salon has opened on the High Street. 'Hair At Pierre's ' held a fabulous open day, where I gorged myself on posh nibbles and free Prosecco. Owner, Toni Gane has been cutting hair in Shepton Mallet for a long time, most recently as a mobile hairdresser. It's her dream come true to have a salon right on the High Street, and I thought it was really fresh and glamorous inside. I particularly love the wallpaper, and Marilyn Monroe artwork. They're also right next door to the old Wine Vaults pub, which will soon be a Mexican Tapas restaurant – how fabulous. I'm still a bit sad to see Steve's fish bar closing down, we had dinner there last week- and it's the first time the kids have cleared their plates. Pizza's alright, but nowt like a nice Cod and chips. Before Domino's come swooping in though, watch out for a last minute clearance sale- everything will be up for grabs, from the furniture to the fryer!

I decided it was time for a massive clear out this week. With Wayne's new handyman business taking off, we need more room in the shed for tools and equipment, whilst I'd really like to create an office area, rather than balancing my laptop on top of laundry or the cat! Everyone does that, right? It all started out well, as we enthusiastically chucked broken bikes, old stereos and mouldy rugs onto the 'tip' pile. I was relieved not to disturb too many giant spiders, and not to discover a rats nest.
However, when it came to 'sorting' through the kids toys, things got complicated. Apparently , I absolutely cannot throw away any of Harry's hundred of plastic dinosaurs, even the babyish ones. Nor any of Rowan's cars, trains, planes, old drawings, dried up play-doh models, bottle tops, tic tac packets, or toilet roll tubes. Every single toy “Definitely will be played with again” I was assured. Eventually, my boys begrudgingly filled two bin bags with toys for a charity shop. The bribe of Ipad time and chocolates worked! De-cluttering is a bit like going to the gym for me. I don't look forward to doing it- but feel really great afterwards. I treated myself with a hair colour & cut at Leanne's roots. Feeling fab, I flounced home to show off to my boys. “You look great” smiled Rowan, “like a fashion start from the old days. In the 1980's , when TV was in black and white!” Wow. |
