Shepton Mallet is full of life, love and colour this Autumn. Not only are the trees looking gorgeous, but many people are wearing the symbolic red poppy in the run up to remembrance Sunday. I am anti-war, but I am proud to wear my poppy in honour of all those brave people who served and those who lost their lives. My Grandfather fought in WWII, and my husband Wayne is a veteran himself. He served in the Royal Corps of Signals 35th regiment from the tender age of 15. It took a very long time for him to adjust to civilian life. We joined the Shepton branch of The Royal British Legion to meet like-minded people and get some much needed support, but it turned out to be great fun- with skittles nights and buffets at The Club ! British Legion volunteers are selling poppies, funky wristbands, reflectors, and enamel pins up at Tesco's , so please pop in to show your support. The money raised will help local people directly. You can also buy them from Dobbies, and the pop up shop in the market square. Another colourful charity event is “Art Under The Hammer” tonight at The Horseshoe Inn, Bowlish. Beautiful paintings by local artists will be auctioned to raise money for Southmead Hospital Charity (Brain Tumour Equipment) and 'Eady's Journey' a local support group for a young girl with Rett Syndrome. We had a fabulous bonfire and fireworks display, and soon it's carnival night. Shepton loves Autumn!
THE BRITISH LEGION MEET ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF EACH MONTH AT 7.30PM at The Conservative Club on Shepton High Street. ALL WELCOME !

I touched upon it in last week's blog an column, but I am so excited about the new hair salon in our High Street. I've tried other hairdressers, and you'll know I most recently went to Leanne's Roots- where I loved my first cut and colour. However, the next time, my colour didn't go quite right. She tried to correct it, and even her colour specialist was quite sure what had gone wrong to leave me with such grey ashy tones- when I had wanted gold and caramel low lights. I felt such a sense of guilt, like I was betraying Leanne, as I popped into Hair at Pierre's for a consultation ! Honestly, I felt like I was cheating on a boyfriend or something ! I think people often feel like this about hair dressers. I had to give myself a long hard talking to. After some nibbles ( the smoked salmon was lush!) and some complimentary bubbly, I was ofloading about my guilt, and colour problem... and agreed to let experienced hair stylist Toni Gane have a look and see what could be done. She never claimed to be able to wave a magic want, but she did say she'd be happy to try and get me those warm golden tones back. At then end of the day, it's my hair- and I want to feel good about myself. I agreed to book an appointment for the following week. I am desperate for lush locks again in time for my 40th birthday next month ! The day came, and I was really nervous. Not only about whether I would like my new colour, or if it would even work...but if my 'ex' hairdresser would find out I had been unfaithful! ( I know it sounds daft). I need't have worried ...my cut and colour came out lovely. Not quite perfect, but colouring is not an exact science- as I've discovered over the years. But much warmer, and with lovely layers cut in to take off my split ends, and give me more texture and volume. The experience was really fun and relaxed, with Toni's mum also in there cutting a girl's long hair off for charity ( Little Princess Trust) and then later agreeing to pay for Toni's hair extensions as a Christmas present ( she's got her mum wrapped round her little finger, it was hilarious to listen to the conversation!) Tash, who does the extensions was in, with her long gorgeous brown hair - we chatted about my semi-permanent eyebrows, and how neither of us had worked out how to get that faded out Kylie Jenner brow. I even admitted to considering Botox, now that they do it in 'Little Beauty's' where I got my brows. The funniest thing of all, was one of the customers who came in and knew Toni's mum. They chatted, gossiped and laughed about everything from neighbours, to funerals. I shouldn't have eavesdropped, but It was so funny. I laughed so hard that tea came out my nose ! I'm not saying I'll never go to another to another salon, and I still have nothing bad to say about Leanne's Roots - they have plenty of happy customers, and my boys loed going there for their back to school cuts- I also got the best party lashes ever done there. BUT i was really happy with Toni's work- and It was a relaxed fun experience- so I will definately be going back, And I am super happy they've come to Shepton Mallet High Street. Go there, and try them out. You'll have a blast! SO HAPPY WITH MY GOLDEN TONES !!!!!!
