I can't believe we are already half way through the school summer holidays! The weather has mostly been rubbish, and the kids are already bored with everything I had planned to 'keep them busy' at home. Luckily, in Shepton, we do have a lot going on, and it usually goes on- whatever the weather. We had fun watching the Mangled Wurzels up at Collett Park in a thunder storm, sheltered by a pop up gazebo ( thank you to the hero who provided it!) whilst the kids slid about on a soaking wet bouncy castle. There is actually a bouncy castle up there most Wednesdays from mid-day during the hols ( check out Collett Park Cafe Facebook page). We've been to Wells cinema to watch 'Despicable Me 3' and have booked tickets for 'The Emoji Movie' next week. This Sunday it's the brilliant Mid-Somerset Show, up at Cannard's Grave Road ( BA4 5RT for your sat nav) it's free entry but £10 per car for parking- still definitely worth it, there is so much to do! We really love the dog shows, and looking at all of the farm animals from tiny baby chicks and fluffy dwarf goats to huge bulls. The website describes the event as a 'traditional one day agricultural show with livestock classes including cattle, pigs and sheep. Our equestrian classes include heavy horses, driving, hunter classes and show-jumping. Whilst in other parts of the show you can see poultry, arts and crafts, flower show, floral art, classic cars, vintage vehicles as well as the South West Cheese Awards and the Somerset Cider Championship. Something for everyone.'
I'd also add , that it is ideal for families. It's easy to push a buggy around, even if it gets muddy. Loads of toilets and baby change facilities on site. There is kids entertainment including soft play, inflatables, fire trucks to climb in , and even a Punch & Judy show. Other summer holiday kids activities in Shepton Mallet include arts & crafts workshops at Starlight Art Studios & juice bar. Shepton Brasserie, are holding craft sessions on Thursday lunchtimes. My Coffee Stop Community Cinema ( 34, High Street ) is showing children's movies on Saturday's at 4pm. Book in advance – when you pop in for a free-trade Unicorn Hot chocolate! Though most of my time has been spent entertaining the boys, my husband and I were lucky enough to enjoy a rare 'date night' last week. We went to 'Ola Barbeque' at Nunney Catch Roundabout, Frome. The place was buzzing, and the traditional Greek inspired food, was delicious and value for money. Wayne had a huge rib eye steak, and I tucked into Moussaka spheres with feta salad. The man who served us was really fun and we'd highly recommend it. Thanks mum for having the boys. Now, shall we pencil in next Friday?
