On Wednesday 11th at 7.49pm , my mother-in-law Joan 'Bomber' Banks died aged 79, after a battle with cancer. My husband Wayne, has struggled through the week in a daze, on the verge of tears. Clients of his handyman business have been really understanding. Although Wayne was determined to “carry on as usual” I managed to convince him to take atleast one day off. Grief is such an unpredictable thing. We've laughed and cried together, and he's shared stories of her life. Little things have cheered him up, like having a huge fry-up breakfast at E's cafe. It's amazing what a plate of sausage, bacon, eggs and black pudding can do for a bloke! Elaine, who runs the cafe ( formerly The Club Lounge ) is a lovely lady, and we have started going there quite frequently, with the children. It's one of the few restaurants in town, which is genuinely 'kid friendly'. There is a basket of toys, including books for older ones. Elaine is happy to make small versions of any meal, and she's now started to offer affordable birthday party packages, to encourage more parents. She used to be a nanny, and loves having babies and children in the caf. “I don't mind the noise, it brings the place to life!” she laughs. My boys loved the schmoo milkshakes, and devoured waffles with cream for a breakfast treat. I'm addicted to the eggs bennedict, and Wayne always plays with the complimentary jelly baby you get with a coffee! Enjoying some family time at E's Caf...
