We had a lovely time last Friday at St.Paul's evening BBQ. The sun was shining, the smell of cooking burgers and sweet candyfloss filled the air. In the vast grounds of the junior school, were two bouncy castles, an array of raffles, games, lucky dips , cakes and toy stalls plus a live music stage hosting an inspiring talent contest. With raffle tickets from 20p and cakes from 25p – the boys got a lot for their pocket money. Although I felt awful for Rowan (6) who felt very unlucky – as little brother Harry (4) kept winning on the tombola . Harry came away with a money box, note cards, sweets and a football pen, whilst Rowan sulkily shuffled home with a pencil sharpener. I tried to cheer him up by explaining that really, he was the lucky one. He'll get to come to St.Pauls every day in September- wheras Harry will have to wait. The next day, I feared a repeat of the 'tombola drama' as we headed over to Croscombe Fun Day & Village Show. I needn't have worried. This time both boys won a cuddly toy on the St.John's Ambulance stall, had a tasty hot dog each ( free food for under 16's !) played on the timber trail and even got to stroke a new born Shetland Lamb. My mum and I enjoyed looking at the village show entries, and I nibbled some delicious cake samples from 'The Cuckoo's Nest' bakery stall. They had the most mouthwatering cakes and biscuits- including Raspberry Millionaire Shortbread. I did extremely well to resist...for now ;) As published in The Shepton Mallet Journal 14/07/2016 Cakes from The Cuckoo's NestEntertainment at St.Paul's BBQ
