The weather was rubbish over the Easter Bank holiday weekend, but on Good Friday atleast, the sun shone down warmly on our little town. The market was thriving, with yet more new stalls, suitcase sellers and literally hundreds of visitors. We stopped by, on our way to Kilver Court, and stocked up on delicous scotch eggs from 'Nuts For..'. I chose pork & apple, the kids were more adventurous, choosing marmalade flavour! I was happy to see the 'low fat chicken sausage' man was back, and Ed the butcher too. We carried on walking down to Kilver Court, stripping off coats and jumpers as we went. The kids love looking at the Babycham Bambi, and are as confused as us, as to why it isnt in a more prominent position. The new nursery, and Alice in Wonderland sculptures in Kilver Court gardens really add to it's charm and beauty – but best of all is the group of four pink flamingos! You can see them from most of the walk ways, and they've certainly made themselves at home. The boys loved watching them, and then spent the morning chasing butterflies, exploring the organic vegetable garden, and floating boats made of leaves down the waterfalls. Every time we go, I marvel at how lucky we are to have such a magical place wihin walking distance. I'd love to see a 'Kilver Court' or 'Sharpham Pantry' retail outlet on the High Street. It may encourage the 'foot fall' we so badly need.

Last Friday's market was really buzzing, and I was so excited to find a brand new meat stall. Ed The Butcher is a local young man from Oakhill. His stall will be a regular feature at Shepton mallet market, selling a huge range of freshly made sausages – with flavour combinations like 'Pork, Cider & Wholegrain mustard' and 'Pork & Black Pepper'- locally sourced, and handmade. You can mix and match, buying 2 packs for £6 or £3.50 each for sausages, beef burgers, chicken fillets, thick cut smoked bacon or black pudding! Ed, also sells fillet steak, lean mince, pork chops, and even some herby gluten-free sausages. It was hardly surprising that he almost completely sold out ! Make sure you get down there early tomorrow. You can contact Ed, and see what's on offer on his facebook page www.facebook.com/edthebutchermeat – you can order directly from him if you should happen to miss him at the market. Whilst our weekly market is definitely on the up, I was devestated to hear about more shops closing down . Fred's is somewhere I shop at least a few times a week – I just can't believe it's closing after 31 years. The Pet Store at the bottom has already gone, along with the record shop, and now I hear that Texaco will be knocked down! I think that worries me the most, as Tesco's often seem to run out of fuel or have problems with the pumps. Come on Shepton, sort it out!
