Last Friday's market was really buzzing, and I was so excited to find a brand new meat stall. Ed The Butcher is a local young man from Oakhill. His stall will be a regular feature at Shepton mallet market, selling a huge range of freshly made sausages – with flavour combinations like 'Pork, Cider & Wholegrain mustard' and 'Pork & Black Pepper'- locally sourced, and handmade. You can mix and match, buying 2 packs for £6 or £3.50 each for sausages, beef burgers, chicken fillets, thick cut smoked bacon or black pudding! Ed, also sells fillet steak, lean mince, pork chops, and even some herby gluten-free sausages. It was hardly surprising that he almost completely sold out ! Make sure you get down there early tomorrow. You can contact Ed, and see what's on offer on his facebook page www.facebook.com/edthebutchermeat – you can order directly from him if you should happen to miss him at the market. Whilst our weekly market is definitely on the up, I was devestated to hear about more shops closing down . Fred's is somewhere I shop at least a few times a week – I just can't believe it's closing after 31 years. The Pet Store at the bottom has already gone, along with the record shop, and now I hear that Texaco will be knocked down! I think that worries me the most, as Tesco's often seem to run out of fuel or have problems with the pumps. Come on Shepton, sort it out!
