It's my son Rowan's 7th birthday today. I'm feeling very emotional. I still remember the day my pregnancy test said 'positive', those first scary 12 weeks, the following amazing nine months, the traumatic but amazing birth, the first cuddle, and feed and nappy change. All those early milestones, tumbling into each other like a slide show, going much too quickly, and suddenly fast forward to now.
Seven years old. Starting junior school next month! He has a passion for aeroplanes. So as a special treat, and thanks to Easyjet tickets starting from £20- we booked flights to Edinburgh. Rowan loved watching the planes take-off and land on the runway. Finally boarding our very own Boeing 737, and flying up above the clouds. The flight is only an hour, we landed in Edinburgh around 8am in time for a Scottish breakfast of square Lorne sausage, eggs and 'tattie bread'. Next, we boarded the City Sightseeing open topped bus, £36 for a family of four. It's hop on, hop off and takes you to all the major attractions . There is even a 'Horrible histories' commentary for kids. We visited Edinburgh Castle, it houses the Scottish crown jewels, about 4 different military museums and a prison. The daily highlight is a real cannon being fired at 1 o'clock. After buying some souvenirs and postcards , Wayne tried on a kilt and we continued the bus tour. I loved Grey Friar's Bobby and Arthur's seat. We stayed at Premier Inn, Lauriston Pace - it was £90 for a family room. You can see my Trip Advisor review here - Premier inn review .We flew back the next morning, very tired but happy. Rowan loved it.
